The club committee position of  “Rights of Way officer” is currently vacant. Until someone comes forward to fill the position, the club is not running any regular green lane runs.

Would you consider volunteering to take up the position? If so, email chairman@brecklandlrc.com for more information.

What is Greenlaning?
You may have seen references to Greenlaning and wondered what it is all about.

BLRC green lane runs are organised by the clubs “Rights of way” officer. Sadly this position on the club committee is currently vacant. If you are interested in taking on this roll, please contact the club chairman.

Greenlaning is driving Public Rights Of Way (PROW) where Mechanically Propelled Vehicle (MPV’s) rights exist. Primarily these are Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs), UCR’s (Unclassified County roads) / ORPA (Other routes with public access).
Many of these rights of way date back 1000s of years when man first made tracks in order to connect from one farm / village to another and are scattered throughout our wonderful countryside.BLRC / GLASS, promote the sensible driving of these Green Lanes. Often Greenlaning is termed Off-Roading. In actual fact nothing could be further from the truth. Green Lanes are public roads that have an unmetalled surface and to drive them you have to have a road legal vehicle, driving license, insurance, car tax and MoT certificate.

Green Lane run’s
Breckland Landrover club’s Rights of way officer aims to organise a Green lane run on the last Sunday of the month. Weather and ground conditions permitting.

We have five proven routes across Norfolk and into Suffolk to choose from, making it a fun family day out and your dog is welcome to join in.

At Dinner time we pull in for a pub stop for refreshments and a bit of a mardle, although it is recommended to bring a bite to eat.

Most routes are easy, some scratchy and non scratchy with a firm base, although some lanes can catch the most experienced of us out every now and again.

During the year as Row’o I try to organise a out of county green lane run and a weekend / five day camping break in Derbyshire, Wales or who knows where?.

All lanes are checked for TRO’s (Traffic regulation orders) using the GLASS Website on regular basis prior to driving, sometimes the odd one may suddenly crop up and throw a spanner in the works.

Green lane clearance takes place usually twice a year, working with N.C.C. and Highways.

This includes cutting back hedge’s, digging drainage culverts filling in ruts and litter picking.

During the wet winter months we have agreed with the Council / Lara not to use certain lanes until the drier weather.

This is known as a voluntary restraint and it works well, preventing a possible long term TRO.

What do I need to go Greenlaning?
Whether you drive a well serviced and maintained classic 1948 series 1, or a modern day Discovery sport. Some basic tools will come in handy consisting of a spade, work gloves, bow saw, 3 to 4 recovery shackles, recovery rope, WD 40 for the petrol engines a assortment of tools, Torch, Fully charged mobile phone and full set of 1:50,000 Ordnance survey maps for the area your in.

Recommended Emergency items
First aid kit, Fire extinguisher.

Other items.

Above all else, British Farmers have a tough time as it is, Please ensure you wash your landrover thoroughly to avoid any disease spread i.e. Foot and Mouth, Swine fever and Bird Flu.
